Gaming the System
September 17-27, Helsinki
Gaming the System seeks to engage with the citizens and visitors of Helsinki by presenting participatory and multimedia artworks centred around the concept of play in public space of Helsinki. The exhibition will take place in metro stations, areas around the hidden coast of the city and in an old ticket booth. The exhibition includes events such as a tour of the city underground and ticket validator turned into a beat box.
Amongst the international guests are Street Line Critics from Ireland. They invite passer-byes of Kulosaari metro tunnel to respond to questions about urban space by writing poetry on the ground and walls of the station tunnel, creating a dialogue between places and cultures. SPART Action Group from York, UK, presented in Helsinki by Dr. Justin McKeown, wishes to help tourists by creating an interactive machine that will dispense alternative tourist information randomly via SMS messaging.
Gaming the System is an international art exhibition created by the research group These Animals together with Helsinki Transport System HKL festival Taidelinja, Aalto University School of Art, Design and Architecture and Pixelache Festival.
